Makaton taster session with Helen Adams (BSc MPhil MRCSLT) Regional Makaton Tutor/Speech and Language Therapist

Open to all our colleagues working in both the Primary and Secondary sectors, this short Makaton taster programme will be delivered by an expert in the field. Makaton is a language programme using signs and symbols to help people communicate. It is designed to support spoken language and the signs and symbols are used with speech, in spoken word order. Makaton takes away the frustration for people who have struggled to communicate meaningfully or effectively.
Following the training, members are welcome to stay for dinner at our ‘lunch and learn’ session to find out more about other learning opportunities in UNISON and offer your thoughts on what should be included in our development programme for school support staff.
All training and refreshments are included free of charge as one of the many benefits of your UNISON membership. A pocket book of Makaton signs can be purchased by members at a reduced cost of £5 at the event, which includes a UNISON subsidy of £3.99.
