Coronavirus update 03.09.20

Dear Member

Good Morning All! We hope you all had a lovely bank holiday weekend and are having a good working week so far.

Rising Coronavirus cases in Wirral

It has been reported that 80 people have tested positive for Covid-19 in Wirral over the past week according to Wirral Public Health. Whilst this is much lower than the infection rates we were seeing in May and June, it is a significant increase from the 2 cases a day that were being reported at the beginning of August. There appears to be no particular source for the rise although there has been a noticeable increase in women under the age of 30 testing positive as well as people in the same households.

Wirral Unison notes with concern the rise in positive Covid-19 cases locally, but would reassure  members that we will continue to monitor the trends carefully and continue to advise our members accordingly.

In the meantime, we remind all our members of what you can do to keep you and your loved ones safe:

  • Maintain social distancing
  • Frequent hand washing
  • Wear a face covering where appropriate

We also reiterate the importance of risk assessments being in place to ensure workplaces are safe and if you fall into one of the categories that is more vulnerable to the impact of Covid-19 that an individual risk assessment is completed.

Schools

Many of our members in schools will, by now have returned to the workplace. Last week when we wrote to you, we talked about how in some cases you may not know if there are issues until you are back at work and can see for yourselves the measures that have been put in place to ensure the safety of staff and pupils. We would encourage our members in schools to tell us about their experiences having returned to school this week. Let us know if you have any concerns or queries about safety measures or any other aspect of the return to school.

We share with members again Unisons FAQ’s for school members as a helpful guide to where Unison is on a number of school based issues UNISON FAQ's Schools
